Interesting HTML5 Projects That Further Prove Flash Is On Its Way Out

I for one am very excited about the adoption of HTML5.  Now with Canvas, WebGL, and Web Sockets among many other libraries, you now have the power to create robust web applications that truly function like their desktop equivalents.
I wanted to share with you, some of my favorite up and coming HTML5 applications that make me happier and happier each day that I didn’t waste my time learning Actionscript.
  1. Quake2!! Yeah, freakin Quake2 with multiplayer support.  I first read about this onAjaxian.  Check out the Youtube video below to see all of the action.

  2. SketchPad – This is a beautiful web based painting application with many bells and whistles.  In addition to all of the features that you would expect from a simple pain app, this application also boasts patterns, swatches, gradients, moveable windows, history tracking, and the ability to save your image.
  3. HTML5 rendition of the Star Wars intro – Using the 3D transitions in HTML5, this person was able to completely recreate the Star Wars introduction. Check out the Youtube video below of it in action

  4. An amazing particle system – This demonstrates the power of HTML5 by creating a complex particle system complete with configurable controls.  Go check it out, drag your mouse around the canvas.
  5. Other interesting HTML5 simple demos
While HTML5 is still in its infant stage, I really do feel that its the way of the future for the internet.  Many sites such as youtube have already converted all of their content to HTML5 in preparation for the Apple iPad.
